‘I love the varied opportunities, research allows us to learn and grow professionally’

Joanne La Verne Sanchez is a clinical research sister at the Cambridge Clinical Research Centre (CCRC) on Level 5. Joanne gives a brief description about her role and why she loves working in research.

Joanne, tell us how long you have worked at the CCRC and what does your role involve?

I have worked at the CCRC for year and a half. Alongside setting up research studies, I prepare rooms and equipment needed per study visits and procedures. I am a member of the Outreach team, going out to the wards at Cambridge University Hospitals, recruiting eligible participants to trials, advise patients and ensuring that whatever they are signing up for is clearly explained and discussed, gaining consents for recruitment of eligible participants and collaborating with study teams.

Part of my role focuses on training others and being a mentor, I am an Emergency Simulation Training Lead/Facilitator and CRF Nurse Led Lumbar Puncture Practitioner.

I am a Neuro-Linguistic Programme Professional Life Coach and a Transformational Embodiment Levels 1 and 2, Breathwork Coach.

I’m also a Cambridge University Hospital’s Filipino BAME Champion, CPFT Cultural Ambassador and NHS England Improvement Professional Nurse Advocate Filipino Nurses Association UK Network and Social Events Coordinator.

I’m hugely passionate in my role. What I like most about my job are the varied opportunities offered and shared with each member of our team. It allows us to learn and grow professionally, in research, further knowledge is developed and existing skills enhanced. I love working and collaborating with my amazing colleagues whilst learning from each other as it makes every single day at work more inspiring.
