Celebrating International Clinical Trials Day – visit our stand!

Tuesday 20 May 2025 from 12 noon to 2.00pm in Outpatients at Cambridge University Hospitals. See attached poster

NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility and NIHR BioResource will have a stand on Tuesday 20 May 2025 from 12 noon to 2.00pm in Outpatients at Cambridge University Hospitals. Find out about health research, how you can take part in and how you can help shape health research in Cambridge.

International Clinical Trials Day commemorates the day that James Lind started his trial on the deadly disease scurvy. In 1747 Lind was serving as a surgeon on HMS Salisbury. His trial consisted of 12 men with scurvy, grouped into pairs and given a variety of dietary supplements from cider to oranges and lemons. After six days, there was a noticeable improvement in the group eating the fruit, providing evidence of the link between citrus fruits and scurvy. Clinical trials have developed a great deal since Lind’s discovery and are of vital importance in medical research.

We take your feedback to NHS leaders to make sure they know what’s working and could be better.

Together, we can ensure services meet your needs and the need of the community.

Participation Opportunities

Get involved in science and health research

D-CYPHR (the DNA, Children + Young People’s Health Resource) from NIHR BioResource and the NHS, sponsored by CUH, is encouraging more families to get involved in science and health research.

D-CYPHR is a nationwide children’s health research programme looking for participation from all children and young people aged 0-15 who are invited to provide a saliva sample and health and lifestyle information to support a wide range of health research studies.

There is an easy opportunity for families to sign up to D-CYPHR at clinic (S2) here at CUH.

To arrange an appointment to provide consent and a saliva sample with your child, please email: dcyphr@bioresource.nihr.ac.uk.

Congratulations to Professor Sadaf Farooqi, who was announced as winner of the ‘ Joint Congress of European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) 2025 ‘Connecting Endocrinology Across the Life Course’ which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark.
